Emhart Glass Research Center, Windsor, CT Built with an investment of around €18 million and opened in 2007, our new facility at Windsor takes our Hot End R&D to a new level. It will help us to develop enhanced glass-forming methods, increase automation and improve yields – and, as a result, move the glass industry forward. Improving the strength of glass containers is an important R&D goal for Emhart Glass. The new Research Center includes a complete production line for the manufacture of glass bottles, which allows us to test our ideas in an industrial environment. Having proved our concepts in controlled conditions, we can use this line to overcome real-world challenges such as furnace variations, glass property changes and cooling-wind fluctuations. As well as giving us a much deeper understanding of process optimization, the new Research Center will help us to create, test and market new solutions much more quickly. Windsor is also an important venue for trials, benchmarking and training (both our own staff and our clients’). |
