Emhart Glass – Quality Engineered Refractories

May/June 2010 — The Emhart Glass US Manufacturing operation in Owensville, Missouri, traces its roots to 1844 and the founding of the Laclede Christy Fire Brick Company.

Emhart Glass has earned a reputation for unsurpassed quality in refractories. We continue to develop and provide the industry’s widest range of glass refractory expendable compositions available, for use in wide range of production applications, i.e.: glass containers, rolled plate, fiberglass, tableware , float glass, pressware and the hand glass industry respectively.

In addition to refractory expendables, we offer a vast range of standard refractory shapes, forehearth refractory shapes and also manufacture unusual, complex, and small quantity shapes – all manufactured to the same exacting tolerances.

Our bonded compositions include Alumina, Alumina Silicates, AZS, Zircon, and fused Silica materials. We offer the full range of shapes in industry standard compositions including 311, 314, 315, 320, 321, 333, 338, 345, and 357.

Continuous Improvement

Emhart Glass Manufacturing in Owensville is constantly improving the existing refractory compositions offered and developing new products for the glass industry. Our refractory craftsmen – most with over a decade of experience – are the heart of our manufacturing operation. They are supported by quality, engineering, and RD&E professionals who emphasize innovative product development and individual customer solutions.

A new expendable refractory composition 319 was recently developed, which is designed specifically for use with green container glass. Emhart Glass recently launched EmCast25, a much improved lightweight insulation employed as a back-up insulation for spouts and orifice rings respectively.

Work will continue on developing an improved superstructure and new glass contact material during 2010, current field trial results are very encouraging. Additional details will be published later in the year.
