Looking Back at 2009 While Moving Forward into 2010

January/February 2010 —

2009…. ….

was a real challenge for the whole world. Even the Glass Industry was not able to escape the dramatic drop of the world economies. Over-capacity, reduced glass container demand and full stocks challenged our industry. We faced a sharp decline after some very prosperous years. However, the Glass Industry is shock-proof. Over the decades we have seen ups and downs, recessions and booms. The only constant over the years were the pronounced cycles. The Glass Industry survived these difficult years and learned how to weather the storms.

While the prime target is managing the current challenges, the forward thinking Glass Industry is already looking ahead to be well positioned for the time after the crisis. Therefore, it is not surprising that two Emhart Glass machine types still enjoy a strong demand during these times of depressed business:

Our SIS machine represents an ideal investment during the crisis: it offers the high quality of a new machine at a very aggressive price. Our customers recognize the fast return on investment of this machine. Therefore, it is definitely one of the winners of the crisis.

The other machine, for which demand is unchanged, is our flagship, the NIS machine. The reason is that this machine offers unique performance combined with high flexibility. No other machine can produce beer bottles in quad gob and wine bottles in triple gob. Many of our customers see this as an opportunity to emerge strengthened from the current crisis.

Currently, we are launching another unique machine, our FleXinspect T. This machine offers sidewall, base, finish, and check as well as wall-thickness inspection in one single machine. This is another example of Emhart Glass’ response to the challenges of the crisis for the benefit of the Glass Industry.

“Emhart Glass, Partnering for Perfect Packaging Solutions” is our message to the Glass Industry. We will support our Industry in good and in bad times, with products, technology, and services. To learn more about Emhart Glass Products please contact your local Emhart Glass representative.
